For the first time in France, Refashion, Race against

Waste and the Aix-Marseille-Provence region

organised a Textile Race for primary schools this

year, to raise awareness about how to recycle

and give a second lease of life to clothes. From

10th to 17th November 2022, nearly 400 pupils

from 10 primary schools had to collect a maximum

number of points determined by the weight of

the collected clothes. Extra points were given

to pupils who repaired, upcycled or customised

worn clothes or made other people aware of the

cause. As well as raising awareness, the operation

was an opportunity to create inter-generational

challenges. The children could ask their parents or

grandparents and other people in their community

to get involved as different shops in their local areas

could take part too. Any competition is virtuous

when the environment is at stake. 17 tons of

clothes were collected in four weeks.
