Consumption of textiles and footwear continues to grow in 2025

3.6 billion new items sold in France in 2025. The volume of Clothing, Household linen and Footwear (CHF), placed on the French market continues to rise, with an increase of +1.5% vs. 2024. This growth affects all target groups, even the baby department. This represents nearly 10 million additional new items on the market every day.

On average, each person in France purchased 43 new clothing items in 2025, one more item than in 2024. This trend is driven by a renewed appetite for more formal outfits, with shirts in particular recording an increase of +8%, and by an unexpected boom in the baby wardrobe segment (+5%).

As for footwear, it is the segment showing the strongest growth, with 281 million pairs sold. Sneakers and trainers, still leading with 39% of volumes, are seeing their growth rate stabilise.

Household linen is showing a decline, after 2 years of strong growth.

Growth remains broadly driven by affordable prices: 7 purchases out of 10 are made on entry-level products.

This 2025 edition also includes the results of Refashion’s exclusive survey on second-hand products, which are up +4.8% in volume : in total, 65.4 kt/year of second-hand CHF were sold in France in 2025, representing 7.2% of overall consumption.

The average price reached €8.50, almost the same price as an entry-level new item (€8.30).
