Over 1/3

Over one-third of people in France have already purchased second-hand articles

31%

of second-hand buyers try to buy used products rather than new ones wherever possible

Analysis: What exactly does 'reuse' mean?

The purpose of reuse is to give products a second lease of life without transforming them.

It should be the  first preferred option (for managing waste). Commonly referred to as “second-hand”, reuse aims to extend the lifespan of products through a variety of means.

Resale between private individuals or through brand stores, in used clothes shops, charity stores or via digital platforms... A growing number of options are available to people looking for second-hand articles.

In 2024, 58.6% of textiles and footwear collected and sorted were considered to be suitable for reuse.

WHY SHOULD YOU GET INVOLVED?

There are many good reasons for both brands and consumers to get involved in reuse.

From a consumer standpoint

one-third of people in France bought used articles in 2023, recognising their many advantages, such as:

  • Reducing environmental impact
  • Saving money
  • Discovering unique or high-quality items at low prices
  • Meeting specific needs in a practical and responsible way.

From a brand standpoint

reuse means:

  • Offering an additional service that enhances the customer experience and builds loyalty
  • Responding to growing consumer demand for second-hand products
  • Making a practical commitment to more responsible fashion, going beyond regulatory requirements.
