In 2023, Refashion explores the second-hand TLC market in France. A revealing study of a fast-changing sector, driving more sustainable fashion.
Supported by the French Climate and Resilience Act, environmental labelling is an ambitious project aimed at informing consumers about the ecological impact of the products they buy, encouraging businesses to reduce their environmental footprint, and promoting more responsible consumption. The L5 project, led by Buitex, aims to install a new, innovative production line, independent of the current production tool, entirely dedicated to post-consumer textiles, in order to strengthen the factory's capacities and secure the supply of TLC from this stream.

The TEXTIUM 700 project, led by MAPEA, aims to deploy the Textium process on a larger scale, which allows for the densification of post-consumer polyester textiles (PES PCR). The objective is to obtain more compact ("densified") granules ("pellets"), intended to feed chemical and enzymatic recycling technologies.

The RePET project, led by FAURECIA SIEGES D'AUTOMOBILE, aims to study the decolouration and characterisation of recycled polyester (rPET) derived from the chemical recycling process codeveloped with its partner, CEA Liten, applied to non-reusable multilayer polyester textiles from the REP TLC sector, with a view to reaching TRL 4.

The project led by VALONERUN aims to develop a high-performance trail running shoe (lightweight, responsive, breathable, with strong grip and traction) that is durable and repairable, capable of reaching 3,000 km of use through two repair cycles, meaning *three “lifecycles” in total.

The Sole-to-polyol project led by PETSHKA aims to recycle polyurethane (PU) soles (from post-consumer, non-reusable shoes) into polyester polyol using PETSHKA’s chemical recycling technology, supported by the development of material sorting for footwear by WASTEX. The incorporation of the recycled polyol will be tested through injection trials performed by the ERAM Group.

The ReRub project led by La Manufacture 49, in collaboration with The 8 Impact, aims to assess the industrial-scale feasibility of incorporating post-consumer recycled rubber into the soles of future TBS and Sessile products.

Since 2010, Refashion has been investing in and supporting innovative projects through its Calls for Projects. The eco-organization has thus committed over 6.26 million euros to co-finance 70 ambitious projects aimed at optimizing the recycling of used, non-reusable textiles and footwear within the framework of this call for projects.
