The role of local authorities

Local authorities are an essential link in the textile chain

As local authorities, you are major players in the clothing, household linen and footwear industry.

Through your presence on the ground, you have the ability to coordinate and inform, contribute to collection and, above all, get people involved.

We can work together to drive the growth of the local circular economy.

Local authorities play an active role in the textile industry

Through your day-to-day activities, you play a key role in the transition of the clothing and footwear industry.

By working directly with local communities, players in the social and solidarity economy, collection operators and elected officials, you are helping to establish the circular economy at local level.

Your unique position allows you to:

  • Make waste sorting easier
  • Encourage responsible consumer practices
  • Create a network of local collection points.

Refashion and local authorities: a partnership on the ground

As a local authority with responsibility for waste collection and/or processing, you have a real impact in your area:

1 Making it easier to collect clothing and footwear

We can help you to set up a coherent network of textile collection points in your area.

Goals:

  • A simpler sorting process for users
  • Fewer textiles and footwear in household waste
  • Increased recovery of textiles and footwear.

2 Raising awareness among users

Events, activities in schools, local campaigns, etc.

Local authorities with accreditation can receive financial support for their communication activities.

3 Coordinating activity at local level

You provide a link between collection operators, elected officials, associations and communities. You play a key role in stimulating the activity of this industrial sector at local level.

We provide support anywhere in France

A team of regional advisors is available to provide support, answer questions, organise meetings and develop ties with the sector.

Events are organised regularly across France:

  • Discussion mornings
  • Local speed-meetings
  • Meetings for technical work groups

These events are an opportunity to discuss issues, find out about the initiatives in place and share best practices between local authorities.
