IDELAM wins 2024 Refashion's Innovation Challenge

IDELAM is a company developing innovative processes for waste recycling and treatment.

IDELAM’s technology is designed to enable the recycling of complex solid waste that is typically non-recyclable, by separating the different materials that compose the waste. This technology can be applied to any type of complex waste made of multiple materials bonded together — such as footwear.

A WORD FROM THE PROJECT MANAGER

«Footwear pose a major recycling challenge because they contain a wide variety of materials, many of which are glued or tightly assembled.»

Thomas Voisin – Managing Director, IDELAM

PROJECT'S OBJECTIVE

Study of the delamination of non-reusable used footwear using the IDELAM process, focusing on the recyclability of the delaminated materials and the optimization of the process in preparation for the upcoming industrialization of the technology.

TYPE OF CHF COVERED: Footwear

RECYCLING STAGE :  Materials preparation with delamination

OUTPUT PRODUCT: Footwear samples made from the recycled/delaminated materials

Financial support from Refashion:

89 715 €

Project duration: 12 months

The project in three steps

  1. Collection of non-reusable used footwear

  2. Delamination (separation of different materials) of the collected shoe batches.

  3. Recycling tests conducted by recyclers, including the characterization of the recycled materials obtained, as well as discussions with the MEM regarding the quality of these materials.
