Around 73% of used textiles are still destined for energy recovery or for landfilling whereas only 1% are recycled in a closed loop, the textiles division of the Bureau of International Recycling heard last week.

Among the many challenges for recycling, the speaker highlighted the incorporation into products of “too many different materials – often only for price reasons”.
