2024 Barometer

For the second year running, Refashion publishes its annual barometer to shed light on trends and purchasing behavior for textiles and footwear in France.

After a downturn in 2023, the textiles and footwear market is on the up again in 2024.

For the second year running, Refashion is publishing its annual barometer to shed light on trends and purchasing behaviour for textiles and footwear in France.

3.5 billion: the number of new items placed on the market in 2024. After a decline in 2023, the volume of textiles, household linen and footwear (CHF) placed on the French market rose by 2.9%, reaching 3.5 billion items. That's 10 million new items sold every day.

This recovery is being driven mainly by clothing, with 4 categories responsible for 90% of the growth in this sector: footwear, jumpers, casual trousers/jeans and T-shirts.

This increase can be explained by a less tense inflationary context, but also and above all by the growing interest in low prices, as shown by the strong growth of pure players (+29.9%) and discounters (+10.3%).

The year 2024 was also marked by an ‘Olympic Games effect’, particularly visible in sportswear/sneakers, where sales jumped by 6.8%.
