UK-based biotechnology company Epoch Biodesign has acquired a long-established nylon 6,6 production facility in Blanes, Spain, unlocking a vertically integrated, closed-loop supply chain from plastic waste through to finished recycled polymer.
The site, formerly operated by Domo Chemicals, gives Epoch commercial-scale polymerisation capacity alongside its AI-designed enzyme platform, which breaks waste plastics down into monomers at low temperatures to produce virgin-quality recycled nylon 6,6.
Jacob Nathan, founder and chief executive of Epoch Biodesign, said: “This acquisition is a key step on our journey to deliver something that the market simply hasn’t been able to offer: a secure supply of genuinely circular material, at scale.
“We’re proud to build on the storied legacy of the Blanes site to deliver a new era for the European materials industry and safeguard 60 jobs in the process.”
