Mapea

🏆 Call for Research and Development Partnerships 2025 partner

Company presentation

MAPEA is a start-up located near Lyon that recovers polyester, polyamide, or polycotton textiles through thermomechanical recycling and offers technical compounds for the plastics industry.

After an initial round of fundraising in 2024, MAPEA developed an industrial prototype of its textile densification process at its plant in Saint-Genis-Laval. In 2024 and 2025, collaborations with chemical recyclers accelerated, with several tons of post-consumer polyester textile pellets (granules) transformed.

Densification technology appears to be a necessary step for the emergence of chemical and enzymatic recycling. MAPEA aims to position itself as a densified material preparer for chemical recyclers by developing an industrial version of its solution.

Project objectives

The TEXTIUM 700 project, led by MAPEA, aims to deploy the Textium process on a larger scale, which allows for the densification of post-consumer polyester textiles (PES PCR). The objective is to obtain more compact ("densified") granules ("pellets"), intended to feed chemical and enzymatic recycling technologies.

Words of the President

The technology developed by MAPEA makes it possible to offer high-performance plastic materials in an open loop, while optimizing the costs of chemical recycling in a closed loop. Refashion's financial support contributes to accelerating this transition.

Jean Michel Duivon - President of MAPEA

Words of the Project manager

The Textium 700 project, supported by Refashion, accelerates the development of densification technology to meet future challenges in terms of volumes, costs, and chemical and thermomechanical recycling performance within the textile industry. MAPEA is a European pioneer in the industrialization of this process.

Simon Thilliez - Project manager at MAPEA
